Therapeutic Laughter

Therapeutic Laughter sessions are light exercise sessions where laughter is added to familiar movements, followed by repeating them for 20 -30 seconds.  Therapeutic Laughter sessions are often called Laughter Yoga or Laughter Club sessions.  A typical laughter yoga or laughter club session often consists of 7 -10 laughter exercises, along with some stretching, deep breathing, and other activities.   It is a phenomenon spreading throughout the world, with more than 6,000 clubs meeting in more than 60 countries.  It is the opportunity to laugh for no reason… without jokes or comedy to stimulate it.

Why is Laughter Therapeutic?

Laughter has many benefits.  It can relieve stress and strengthen the immune system.  It is an aerobic exercise, it works the cardiovascular system.  It can help relieve pain by increasing the body’s level of endorphins.  It can help to relieve depression and decrease anxiety.  Laughter helps to lower high blood pressure.  It can be a powerful healing tool and practicing it on a regular basis can be life-changing.
